Ribbon Cutting Opens Newest Healthcare Facility in Dublin
By Jay Jacobs, Project Executive
Completion of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Dublin expands healthcare in the region’s third largest city and completes one of Corna Kokosing’s (CK) largest solo projects to date.
The 272,000-square-foot facility includes a five-story medical office building and a three-story ambulatory surgical center, southwest of Rt. 33 and Avery Road. The structure will house teams providing outpatient surgery, advanced diagnostics, wellness care, physical therapy and much more, all in comfortable, flexible, light-filled spaces.
I’m excited about what this facility means for the Dublin-area community as well as for our company. At the time, this was our largest contract as a prime CM, and a great step forward in building upon our expertise in healthcare construction.
As with any project of this size, we worked closely with the owners, Ohio State, and with the design team, DLR Group, throughout planning and design phases. As the largest self-performing contractor in central Ohio, CK is especially well equipped to consider design concepts and recognize what they could add to a project in terms of value, cost, time or complexity.
Having personally managed a number of healthcare projects for CK, I can say the Dublin outpatient project was a unique and outstanding experience. We were able to tour a similar facility already completed in a different location. From that real-life full scale mockup, we saw how our finished product would function and what lessons learned could benefit our project.
I’m grateful to Ohio State, DLR Group and our other partners on this project, for their flexibility and collaborative approach. We were fortunate to have begun work before the worst of the COVID-19-related supply chain problems developed, but the solid partnership nonetheless helped us navigate the challenges that did arise.
As we close the chapter on the Dublin project I’m looking forward to our next opportunity to help expand and strengthen the healthcare landscape in central Ohio.
