Overview
Corna Kokosing, in partnership with Elford Construction, worked with FCCFA to renovate the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) to give it a fresh, modern look and to expand to accommodate even more and larger events. The GCCC is now the 4th largest contiguous exhibit space in its competitive set.
Highlights of the $125 million project included:
- Adding 37,000 SF of new exhibit space, bringing contiguous space to 373,000 SF
- Adding 10,000 SF of two-level meeting space with 10 new rooms with outside windows, bringing a total of 74 meeting rooms to the facility
- LEED certification
- Upgrading the Convention Center and Hyatt Regency meeting rooms, ballrooms and public spaces in the areas of finishes, wall coverings, way-finding, technology, sound systems, ceilings, carpeting, social seating and lighting. Several meeting rooms as well as the Union Station Ballroom (formerly the Grand Ballroom) are already complete and have hosted groups.
- Full renovation of the exterior of the Convention Center featuring cleaning and repairing the façade, adding enhancements to guide attendee arrival and navigation with way-finding, replacing doors and transforming pick-up and drop-off points.
- New large, two-level open atrium entrance on the north end with beautiful natural light features and elegant tile. This more prominent entrance at Goodale Boulevard and North High Street will better connect the convention center and the vibrant Short North Arts District. It also will be used for pre-function space.
- Construction of an $18-million, eight-level, 800-space parking garage that will bring total onsite parking to 4,000 spaces. The garage is already complete and open to the public. Ultimately, it will connect to the renovated center by covered skywalk.
Additional first-class upgrades included:
- New show offices overlooking exhibit halls
- New lighting, including up-lighting in foyers and concourse
- More digital signage, complementing the existing, free digital signage outside each meeting room
- New wall colors and textured fabrics throughout the building
- New, local concepts in Food Court and Café
- Public art in 150+ interior and exterior locations
